Netanyahu Maneuvers to Create Crisis to Maintain Power Amidst Declining Polls

New poll data from the occupied territories indicates a significant drop in support for Benjamin Netanyahu’s Likud party, prompting concerns that he may engineer a political stalemate to remain in power.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, based on data published by Mehr News Agency and reported by Al-Maalomah, a Palestinian source revealed that the latest poll results in the occupied territories show a sharp decline for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu‘s Likud party. The party has reportedly lost 18 to 19 seats, falling from its previous 32 seats in the parliament.

In contrast, the rival Yishai party, led by Gadi Eisenkot, is projected to secure 22 seats. The Palestinian source further stated that forming a government in the Israeli parliament, which has 120 seats, requires at least 61 seats. Current projections suggest the opposition bloc will hold 53 seats, while Netanyahu’s coalition with the Haredi parties is expected to command only 51 to 54 seats.

The source indicated that these figures suggest Netanyahu may be attempting to force a political deadlock. This strategy would aim to prevent the opposition from forming a coalition government and allow him to remain in his caretaker role.
