Trump Seizes on Iranian Oil Minister’s Resignation to Portray Economic Crisis

U.S. President Donald Trump has once again sought to portray Iran’s economy as on the verge of collapse, leveraging the resignation of the country’s oil minister with unsubstantiated claims about the nation’s economic and oil sector conditions.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, U.S. President Donald Trump has renewed his assertions regarding Iran’s economic situation and oil market dynamics, attempting to frame the ongoing pressures as leading to economic collapse. Trump claimed that the resigned Iranian Oil Minister stated the country no longer possesses oil, a thriving economy, or any other resources. This claim was not part of the minister’s resignation statement.

The resignation of Iran’s Oil Minister was an administrative matter within the government’s purview. Trump has attempted to exploit this event by attributing statements about Iran’s oil reserves and economy to the minister, thereby bolstering his narrative on Iran’s current conditions. Furthermore, Trump alleged that millions of barrels of oil have transited the Strait of Hormuz without issue in the past two days.

He contrasted the situation in the U.S. as favorable with Iran’s circumstances being dire. The U.S. President’s emphasis on the unimpeded passage of oil through the Strait of Hormuz coincides with his efforts to project an image of success for his policies toward Tehran by making claims about Iran’s economic status.
