Trump Leverages French Unrest for Islamophobic Rhetoric Amidst Protests

U.S. President Donald Trump has used his social media platform to link the widespread protests in France to immigration and Islam, while French officials grapple with escalating student demonstrations and political divisions.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, U.S. President Donald Trump has utilized his social media platform, Truth Social, to offer his perspective on the public protests occurring in France, framing the situation as an opportunity to advance anti-Islam sentiments. Trump asserted that the events unfolding in France stem from extensive, uncontrolled immigration. He further claimed that the core issue in France is not related to schools, but rather to Islam’s perceived ambition to seize control of a nation that was once great.

The French government has decided to suspend classes until the end of the week amidst ongoing and expanding student protests across the country. Concurrently, the Prime Minister of France, in an effort to divert public attention from the nation’s myriad problems, alleged that the far-left is attempting to foment chaos through student protests in the lead-up to the presidential elections.

Earlier reports from the French newspaper ‘Le Figaro’ indicated that over 6,000 individuals had been arrested in France since the onset of the protests. The French Minister of National Education announced on Sunday that, following a week of clashes between riot police and high school students that coincided with the spread of nationwide protests regarding classroom conditions, between 400 and 500 high schools would remain partially or fully closed.

The student protests, which began approximately ten days ago in Parisian suburbs, were initially focused on improving educational conditions, addressing teacher shortages, and tackling overcrowded classrooms. The movement rapidly escalated into a nationwide wave, now amplified by the closure of hundreds of schools, the involvement of university students and teachers, and violent confrontations with police, indicating a significant deepening of the crisis.
