US Concerned Over Bab el-Mandeb Tensions Amid Saudi Arabia’s Yemen Actions

The United States government under President Donald Trump is reportedly hesitant to become extensively involved in Saudi Arabia’s actions in Yemen, seeking to prevent further escalation of conflict and concerned about potential new military tensions in the region that could imperil shipping in the Bab el-Mandeb strait.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Bloomberg reported, citing informed sources, that the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump is reluctant to engage deeply in Saudi Arabia’s intervention in Yemen. The U.S. has reportedly sought to prevent Saudi Arabia from initiating a new severe conflict in Yemen.

These sources added that the United States has provided intelligence and refueling assistance to Saudi Arabia. However, Saudi Arabia’s failure to secure direct participation from other nations in its operations against Yemenis has led to its own unsuccessful attempts to garner support from various countries in recent weeks.

Sources indicated that the U.S. and several other countries have offered limited defensive and logistical support to Saudi Arabia. Concerns are mounting that the ongoing conflict could lead to new military tensions in the region, posing a risk to maritime traffic in the Bab el-Mandeb strait.

Two sources speaking with Bloomberg emphasized that the United States has urged Saudi Arabia not to deploy forces into Yemen while the broader conflict with Iran persists.

Allison Moner, former Deputy U.S. Envoy to Yemen, stated that claims suggesting the Yemeni proxy government could gain full control over all regions are highly doubtful.
