Egypt and South Korea Forge Strategic Partnership

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi met with South Korean President Lee Jae-myung during his three-day official visit to South Korea, emphasizing the expansion of cooperation between the two countries at various levels. During this meeting, several Memoranda of Understanding were signed in the fields of economy, industry, and technology.
These agreements cover key areas such as shipbuilding, clean energy, electricity infrastructure, and increasing joint investments. The President of South Korea also viewed this step as a sign of the two countries’ willingness to deepen cooperation in more diverse fields.
In the meeting, the President of Egypt called for the commencement of negotiations to sign a “Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement.” Sisi emphasized the importance of this action, highlighting the necessity of creating links in the supply chains of both countries and expanding trade.
He also pointed to Egypt’s strategic geographical location and invited Korean companies to utilize this position and Egypt’s infrastructure to enter Arab and African markets. Another significant focus of this meeting was the development of military and industrial cooperation. The President of South Korea cited the joint production project for K9 self-propelled howitzers as a successful example of technology transfer and the development of defense industries in Egypt.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the President of Egypt stressed the importance of activating the “Joint Business Council” and regularly holding the economic forum of the two countries, so that existing investment opportunities can be transformed into operational and industrial projects. This visit marks el-Sisi’s first official trip to South Korea since 2016, opening a new path for the strategic cooperation between Cairo and Seoul following previous meetings between the two sides in November 2025.
