Russian Intelligence Alleges EU Chief Urging Hungary Against Rosatom Nuclear Cooperation

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Russia‘s Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) announced on Monday that European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen is actively attempting to pressure Budapest into abandoning its nuclear energy collaboration with Moscow.
In a statement, the SVR asserted that the European Commission’s presidency is the primary driver behind an informational campaign targeting Rosatom and the construction of the Paks-2 nuclear power plant in Hungary. Von der Leyen has reportedly tasked her agency to compel Budapest to cease its cooperation with Moscow in the peaceful nuclear energy sector.
The SVR further commented that the European Union has implicitly acknowledged the inability of European producers to compete with Rosatom in the nuclear power plant market. The statement suggests that any alternative to Rosatom for the construction of the Paks-2 nuclear power plant in Hungary would be less efficient. Hungary, it posits, faces a difficult choice: either be deprived of a reliable source of electricity production or defend the interests of its citizens.
