Lebanese President Aoun: Negotiations with Israel Pursued to Save Lebanon, War is Futile

Lebanese President Joseph Aoun stated on Tuesday that Lebanon has opted for negotiations with Israel to salvage what remains of the country, asserting that continued conflict will yield no positive outcomes and that dialogue is the chosen path to avert further devastation.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, based on data published by the Mehr News Agency, quoting Al-Quds Al-Arabi, Lebanese President Joseph Aoun said on Tuesday: “We decided to save what is left of Lebanon. We moved towards negotiations because war will not bring us to a result.”

The Lebanese President emphasized that the agreement reached is not ideal but has prevented the expansion of Israeli aggressions. Lebanon’s objectives are to achieve the withdrawal of Israeli forces, the return of displaced persons, the release of prisoners, and the reconstruction of the country.

Aoun, referring to the ongoing attacks by the Zionist regime on southern Lebanon, stressed that Lebanese officials are working towards reducing and ultimately ending these attacks.

He added: “We decided to save what is left of Lebanon. Is it better for the war situation and Israeli naval movements to continue, or for us to do something that can ward off disasters from the country? Wars usually end with a decisive victory for one of the parties or through dialogue, and we chose the second path, which is better for preventing further damage. The residents of the south are tired and wish to live in security.”
