Ex-IDF Chief Eisenkot: Regime Change in Iran Unachievable Through Military Strikes

Former Chief of Staff of the Israeli military, Gadi Eisenkot, stated that overthrowing the Iranian regime solely through military means is not feasible and that internal change is paramount for political transformation.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Gadi Eisenkot, former Chief of Staff of the Israeli military and leader of the Yamina party, has asserted that designating the overthrow of the Islamic Republic’s system as a war objective is misguided. In remarks concerning the conflict with Iran, Eisenkot criticized Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s approach, outlining the initial aims of operations against Iran as halting its nuclear program, damaging its missile capabilities, and severing ties with Hezbollah in Lebanon.

Eisenkot emphasized that any change in Iran’s political system must originate internally and cannot be solely achieved through military operations. The former military official also cautioned against resuming attacks on Iran, questioning the necessity of such actions given the current wartime conditions. He posited that a new military strike could only be justified if Iran were on the verge of acquiring nuclear weapons.

Furthermore, Eisenkot claimed that Netanyahu lacks the necessary authority to direct new military operations against Iran and that his government has failed to achieve its declared objectives in the war. These statements emerge amid escalating internal political disputes within Israel, where the perceived failure of the Israeli regime against Iran has become a central point of contention. Netanyahu’s opponents have openly questioned his cabinet’s management of the war and its ability to meet military goals.
