Lebanon Urges Washington to Pressure Israel to Halt Attacks

Lebanese President Joseph Aoun has called on U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio to exert pressure on Tel Aviv to cease its attacks and adhere to a trilateral framework agreement aimed at de-escalating conflict in southern Lebanon.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Lebanese President Joseph Aoun engaged in discussions with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio concerning the escalating situation in southern Lebanon and the imperative for Israel to halt its military operations. The Lebanese Presidency issued a statement detailing the meeting, which focused on the necessity of stopping Israeli assaults on Lebanese territory.

During the conversation, President Aoun urged Secretary Rubio to apply pressure on Israel, demanding that Tel Aviv comply with the terms of a trilateral framework agreement. The Lebanese President emphasized the importance of implementing the provisions of this agreement and ceasing hostilities in the southern part of the country.

The trilateral agreement between Lebanon and Israel, brokered by the United States, was announced on June 26, 2026 (July 5, 1405 in the Iranian calendar). The agreement was established with the objectives of advancing negotiations, halting the ongoing conflict, facilitating the gradual withdrawal of Israeli forces from Lebanese territory, and reinforcing the sovereignty of the Lebanese government. Despite these provisions, reports indicate that Israel, with apparent U.S. tacit approval, continues its military incursions.
