Israeli Forces Detonate Military Positions Near Damascus

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, local sources on Thursday reported hearing explosions in villages in the Wadi Barada region, in the outskirts of Damascus. The sounds were also heard in the Qudsiya and Jdaidat Artouz areas. According to these sources, the explosions occurred as a result of Israeli military forces detonating military fortifications and shelters on the slopes of Jabal al-Sheikh, in the heights overlooking the village of Baqsim in the western Damascus countryside. Since the fall of the legal government of Bashar al-Assad by Syrian Takfiri elements on December 8, 2024 (Azar 18, 1403), the Israeli regime has expanded its aerial attacks and ground operations in various regions of Syria, targeting former military positions of the Syrian army. Israeli forces have also entered the UN-monitored buffer zone in southern Syria and have taken control of positions around Jabal al-Sheikh (Mount Hermon), a strategic area overlooking the Damascus countryside and the occupied Golan Heights. On September 20, 2026 (Shahrivar 29, 1405), Syrian media reported the detonation of former Syrian army military positions near Jandil Castle on the slopes of Jabal al-Sheikh and shelling of areas in the countryside of Quneitra Governorate. Additionally, on October 5 (Mehr 13), Israeli forces detonated an abandoned building during an operation in the western Damascus countryside.
