Yemen Attacks Undermine Investor Confidence in Saudi Arabia’s Security, Prompting Event Cancellations

Heightened attacks by Yemen have led Saudi Arabia to cancel or postpone several major sporting, economic, and diplomatic events, raising serious concerns among investors about the kingdom’s ability to ensure its security and stability.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, the New York Times has reported that Saudi Arabia is facing a significant downturn in investor confidence due to escalating attacks from Yemen. In recent days, a series of major sporting, economic, and diplomatic events have been either canceled or postponed.

The New York Times warned that the cancellation of these international events is weakening investor trust in Saudi Arabia’s capacity to maintain its own security and stability. In line with this, the Asian Tour of Golf announced the postponement of the Saudi International Golf Tournament until further notice. The UCI Track Cycling World Championships, which were scheduled to be hosted in Riyadh, have also been canceled.

The repercussions of Yemeni attacks on Saudi Arabia extend beyond these two events. The ‘Six Kings’ exhibition tennis tournament has been rescheduled from October to December. Furthermore, the International Federation of Football Associations (FIFA) announced on Thursday that the final stage of the 2026 e-Sports World Championship, slated for Riyadh, has been postponed indefinitely.

Moreover, the continued Yemeni attacks on various regions within Saudi Arabia have raised serious questions about the feasibility of hosting the AFC Asian Cup football tournament in the kingdom. These competitions are scheduled to take place from January 7 to February 5, 2027, with Saudi Arabia as the host nation.

Separately, the European Union announced on Thursday that its summit with the Gulf Cooperation Council countries, initially planned for October 24 in Saudi Arabia, has been postponed.
