France Launches Major Security Operation Amid Widespread Unrest

French Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu announced an extensive security operation to commence next Saturday, acknowledging a severe crisis following recent protests in Paris, Marseille, and Lyon. The government faces criticism from various political factions regarding its handling of the escalating situation.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, French Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu declared on Tuesday that the government will initiate a large-scale security operation starting next Saturday to counter ongoing disturbances. This announcement follows a week of significant protests in major French cities including Paris, Marseille, and Lyon, highlighting a deepening security crisis.

Lecornu sought to attribute blame to far-left groups, emphasizing the government’s objective to restore order within society. However, the French government finds itself under intense scrutiny from various political entities despite efforts to manage the situation. Left-wing factions accuse the administration of failing to address the cost of living crisis, while government officials themselves have acknowledged ‘intelligence shortcomings’ and ‘slow deployment of forces’.

Minister of the Interior, Laurent Núñez, accepted responsibility for security failures and expressed regret over crisis management. He stated that the army will also be deployed in the coming days to support police forces in critical urban centers. The current crisis in France has escalated following weeks of protests by students concerned about educational resources and future employment prospects. So far, over 6,000 individuals have been arrested during these unrests. With labor unions planning widespread strikes in November, France’s security landscape is expected to continue facing serious challenges.
