Umm Al Quwain Coastline Temporarily Closed Due to Oil Spill

The United Arab Emirates has temporarily closed all coastlines and coastal areas of Umm Al Quwain following the detection of an oil spill from a tanker, prompting temporary closure and odor concerns in neighboring emirates.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment of the United Arab Emirates announced that all coastlines and coastal areas of Umm Al Quwain have been temporarily closed following the identification of an oil leak from a tanker. The ministry stated on the social media platform X that monitoring systems detected the oil leak, which has also caused unusual odors reported by residents in Sharjah, Ajman, and Umm Al Quwain.

The ministry emphasized that the emitted odors “pose no threat to the health of residents.” Specialized teams have commenced containment operations for the spill. They are working to cordon off the affected areas and carry out cleanup operations in coordination with local and federal authorities.

The Ministry of Climate Change and Environment of the UAE indicated that the closure of coastal areas will continue until technical assessments are completed and necessary measures are determined to safeguard public safety and the marine environment.
