Hakeem Jeffries Announces Bid for U.S. House Speaker

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Hakeem Jeffries, the Democratic leader in the U.S. House of Representatives, has announced his candidacy for the leadership of the legislative body in a message to his colleagues. The Axios news website reported the development.

Jeffries stated, “We do not work for Trump, Vance, or the Supreme Court; we work for the American people.” The Democratic official further asserted that the era of the House of Representatives fully complying with the Trump administration has ended and that he himself has received no contact from President Trump.

In a separate part of his remarks concerning the conflict related to Iran, Jeffries stated, “We must end this reckless and costly war; a war that has led to increased fuel prices across the country.” The Democratic leader of the House of Representatives also called for an end to tariffs imposed by Trump, noting that these tariffs have increased the annual costs for American citizens by thousands of dollars.
