Trump Weighs Pentagon Leadership Amid Concerns Over Iran Conflict and Electoral Impact

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, citing information published by Mehr News Agency, Axios reports that some diplomats believe Iran’s perceived success in mid-term elections could push U.S. President Donald Trump to escalate military actions. Concurrently, CNN, quoting several Republican Party members, states that U.S. Secretary of War Pete Hegseth has overestimated Washington’s ability to swiftly resolve the conflict with Iran.
CNN also reported, citing White House officials, that Trump’s confidence in Hegseth remains unshaken, although the President has sought counsel from his advisors regarding Hegseth’s performance. An informed source told the network that Trump might feel compelled to retain Hegseth if he decides to authorize further strikes against Iran.
On the other hand, a source close to the U.S. Secretary of War informed CNN that Hegseth still expects to remain in his post and is prepared for any attempts to remove him. This source added that Hegseth believes he is fully qualified to defend all decisions made during his tenure in public hearings.
Fox News, quoting informed sources, reported that the option of new U.S. attacks against Iran could potentially obstruct changes in the country’s Pentagon leadership. In related developments, CBS News cited sources stating that Trump has not yet decided to replace Hegseth. However, the U.S. President has raised questions with his advisors about the necessity of Hegseth continuing in his role.
