China Condemns US Sanctions on Chinese Firms Over Cuba Ties

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, …
The Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Friday vehemently denounced the latest United States sanctions against Cuba, labeling the restrictions as unlawful and exceeding Washington’s jurisdictional boundaries. Beijing further accused the United States of seeking to undermine the cooperative relationship between Beijing and Havana.
Gu Jiakun, a spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, emphasized that Beijing firmly opposes American interference and its ongoing efforts to damage China-Cuba cooperation. He reiterated that his country will implement all necessary measures to safeguard its commercial interests and corporate entities.
This firm stance follows the US State Department’s announcement regarding a fresh wave of sanctions targeting Cuba’s oil and electronics sectors. For the first time, these newly imposed US restrictions directly implicate two Chinese companies, with Washington alleging that these firms supply electronic and security equipment to the Cuban military.
Additionally, Washington has added Anney Rodriguez Lastres, the child of the head of the Business Management Group (GAESA), to its sanctioned individuals list. GAESA stands as Cuba’s largest commercial conglomerate and operates under the supervision of the nation’s military apparatus.
The latest punitive measures are part of an escalated campaign of US sanctions against Cuba that intensified in January, encompassing a strict oil embargo. This ongoing economic pressure has significantly worsened the humanitarian and economic crisis in Cuba, leading to nationwide power outages and severe shortages of essential goods for civilians.
