A drone strike targeted the Kormor gas field in the Iraqi Kurdistan region, according to security sources who spoke with Reuters. Following the aerial assault, eyewitnesses and reports indicated that a thick column of smoke rose from the surrounding area of the energy infrastructure.

As of yet, authorities have not released comprehensive details regarding the extent of potential physical damage, casualties, or any temporary suspension of operations at the facility. Security and energy officials are currently assessing the situation.

Situated in the Chamchamal district of Iraq’s Sulaymaniyah Governorate, the Kormor gas field serves as a foundational pillar for supplying fuel to electricity generation plants across the Kurdistan region. However, the facility has repeatedly faced rocket and drone attacks over recent years.

A previous drone attack on November 26, 2025, sparked a fire at the gas storage facilities and forced a temporary halt to production. That incident triggered widespread, extensive power outages across various parts of the Kurdistan region.
