Russia vetoed the Security Council resolution against North Korea

Today (Thursday), by vetoing the resolution of the United Nations Security Council, Russia effectively canceled the supervision of a delegation of experts of this body on international sanctions against North Korea.

Associated Press reported: The resolution proposed to the Security Council with the support of the United States would have extended the mission of this delegation for another year, but Russia’s veto will stop this operation.

Out of 15 members of the Security Council, 13 members voted in favor of this resolution. Russia vetoed it and China abstained.

Vasily Nebenzia, Russia’s ambassador to the United Nations, told the members of the Security Council before this vote that Western countries are trying to suppress North Korea and that sanctions under the pretext of curbing the country’s nuclear program are “irrelevant” and “far from It is reality”.

This resolution did not change the sanctions against North Korea.
