Norwegian police increase alert level after threats to Muslims on the eve of Eid al-Fitr

Norwegian police equipped police officers with weapons after sending threats to mosques in the country on the eve of Eid al-Fitr.

The Norwegian police command is ready from Saturday to oblige police officers to carry weapons until further notice as Eid al-Fitr approaches.

As reported by AFP, he wrote in a statement: The General Command decided to arm the police throughout the country from Saturday afternoon. Because there are threats against Islamic societies and Eid al-Fitr in the coming days.

Rohr Hansen, the police spokesperson, said: This is about the threat that was sent to the mosques. We are trying to find out who is behind this.

Police officers do not generally carry weapons in the Scandinavian country, but are allowed to do so exceptionally, as happened during the Easter period from March 27 to April 2.

Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gehrstor also said: All threats, in any form, are unacceptable. It should be safe to practice your religious rites in Norway.

He continued: For many Muslims, Eid is a time of community, solidarity and gratitude, the threats that are being made are completely contrary to this, it is unacceptable and does not belong to Norway.

This is stated in view of the reports of the escalation of incidents of Islamophobia in the European continent due to many issues, including the increasing waves of immigration in the past years and the recent reactions to Israel’s ongoing war against Gaza.
