Jamile Habsawi has been the mayor of the city of 6,000 people since 2021 and is also a member of the Bourgogne-France-Comte regional council.
French police raided his house as part of the initial investigation related to drug trafficking. “Leon Republican” newspaper wrote that he bought this house three years ago but has not lived in it. Also, according to this newspaper, the municipality of Olon city has also been inspected.
According to AFP, a total of seven people, including two of Habsawi’s brothers, have been arrested in connection with this issue. The French Public Prosecutor’s Office has also announced the discovery of 983 grams of cocaine, 7,000 euros in cash and about 20 gold bars in several locations.
