The first green port was launched in China
reported by Weifang Port as part of Boha Yuan Port under Shandong Port Group (SPG) China has unveiled its green and low-carbon port plan and has become the first carbon-free port in China. This event is considered a turning point in this country’s efforts for sustainability and green development. The use of clean energy in this port has increased from 49.5% to 62%.
Wang Rooji General Manager of Issuing Company China Classification Society (CCSC) certification announced that the certification process for carbon emission assessment has been carried out according to international standards.
Also Liu Gong executive vice president of the port Bohaiwan stated that Weifang port has now achieved the goal of zero carbon port. He emphasized that the correct definition of zero carbon port means zero emissions of greenhouse gases in the entire port. We will work with the logistics stakeholders to introduce environmentally friendly vehicles and reduce greenhouse gas emissions from ships that dock at the port, and this port will be the logistics chain. will create green.
Brahmin basis, San Chao, Deputy Director General of Boha Yuan Port, reminded that all the main facilities in Weifang port with electric energy and They operate environmentally friendly hydrogen. Weifang Port has achieved complete energy self-sufficiency by establishing an integrated green energy system through wind, solar and energy storage technologies.
It should be said that this project is China’s first integrated demonstration project for the production, transportation, storage and use of green hydrogen, which provides 5 million kilowatt hours of green electricity annually. This will save 1.35 billion dollars in electricity costs of Weifang port and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 57,000 tons per year. Also, surplus electricity is available to the community. The daily designed capacity for hydrogen refueling stations in Weifang port can meet the needs of hydrogen vehicles.
This port saves 21,000 standard tons of coal per year compared to traditional coal-fired power plants, which produce similar electricity, which has a significant impact on the environment and the launch of the first carbon-free port. In China, it is a big step towards achieving zero carbon goals and can serve as a model for the port sector around the world.
