Rubio and Votekaf Slam Politico Report in Fiery Response
U.S. Secretary of State and President’s Special Envoy for the Middle East Accuse Politico of Publishing “Fictional Story and Falsehoods” in Report on Potential russia-Ukraine Peace Deal
According to a report by the English section of Webangah news Agency, citing Mehr news Agency and RT, marco Rubio, U.S.Secretary of State, and steve Witkoff, Special Envoy of former President Donald Trump’s administration for the Middle East, accused the American newspaper Politico of spreading falsehoods regarding its report on lifting sanctions against Russia as part of a potential peace deal in Ukraine.
Politico reported yesterday that Washington is considering lifting sanctions on Russia’s Nord Stream pipeline as well as other sanctions targeting Moscow’s assets in Europe as part of a peace agreement.
Citing five informed sources close to the negotiations, the newspaper stated that witkoff is ”the primary supporter of this plan,” with reasons including…“Friendship” with Vladimir Putin on the Rise
the article also states that Rubio opposes this plan and further cites analysts warning that such a move could harm U.S. liquefied natural gas exports.
Rubio swiftly responded to the report on social media platform X, writing: “This is clearly false—a made-up story.”
Wittkopf used even sharper language, calling the article “nonsense.” Both Rubio and Wittkopf are key figures in negotiations related to ending the war in Ukraine.
Although details of Trump’s peace plan have not been released, reports indicate that one of its conditions is recognizing Crimea as Russian territory. Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Ukraine’s president, recently rejected this proposal, calling it “unconstitutional.” In response, Trump accused the Ukrainian president of endangering negotiations with “provocative statements.”and warned that if Zelensky does not compromise,”he may lose his entire country.”
