Vatican Announces Ahead of Cardinals’ Assembly: All 133 Catholic Cardinals Set to Vote for Pope Francis’ Successor Now Present in Rome
The English section of the Webangah News Agency, citing mehr News Agency and Rasha Today, reports that all 133 voting cardinals from 71 countries have arrived in rome to elect the next pope.
Currently, the cardinals with the highest chances of succeeding as the next pope are Pietro Parolin, Vatican Secretary of State, and Filipino Luis Antonio Tagle.
Simultaneously occurring, according to Euronews, the Vatican announced ahead of the cardinals’ Assembly that all 133 Catholic cardinals tasked with electing Pope Francis’ successor are now present in Rome.
The cardinals will convene secretly at the Sistine chapel starting Wednesday at 4:30 PM local time to begin voting.
Voting will commence on the first day with one round, followed by up to four rounds daily from the second day onward.
If black smoke emerges from the Sistine Chapel chimney, it signals that no consensus has been reached among the 133 voting cardinals. the process continues until a candidate secures two-thirds plus one vote (89 out of 133). White smoke will then rise—indicating a new pope has been elected as St.Peter’s successor and Pope Francis’ replacement.
