Iraq’s Sixth Parliamentary Session Set for December 29
According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Iraqi President Abdul Latif Rashid has officially announced that the inaugural session of the sixth parliamentary term will convene on December 29, 2025.
President Rashid issued a decree confirming the date following the ratification of the final election results. The session will mark a critical juncture in Iraq’s political process.
As stipulated by the Iraqi constitution, the eldest member of parliament presides over the first session.
The Supreme Judicial Council of Iraq previously stated that the election of the Speaker and two deputies must occur within 15 days from the ratification of the election results on December 14, 2025.
Furthermore, the constitution mandates that a new president be selected within 30 days from the first parliamentary session and the subsequent election of the Speaker and deputies.
Following the election of the president, there is a 15-day period to nominate a prime minister to form a new government.
The Supreme Judicial Council has also stipulated that the newly appointed prime minister must form a cabinet within 30 days of being designated.
