Grand Ayatollah Sistani Issues Fatwa on Public Support for Iran Amidst Regional Tensions

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, citing reports from Quds News Agency via Mehr News Agency, Grand Ayatollah Sayyid Ali al-Sistani, the highest Shia religious authority in Iraq, has issued a fatwa stating that safeguarding Islamic military stability and confronting current conspiracies aimed at fragmentation through comprehensive popular participation in public squares is a collective religious duty (wajib al-kifayah).
In response to an inquiry regarding the ruling on attending public squares and mosques to counter those seeking to cause destruction, demoralize the enemy, and prevent chaos and disorder in the current circumstances, he affirmed: Under these assumptions, participation in public squares is a collective religious duty.
Several days prior, the office of Grand Ayatollah al-Sistani released a statement announcing that military aggression against Iranian territories has been ongoing for several days, resulting in the martyrdom of numerous citizens, including heroic defenders of their country, and dozens of innocent children and civilians.
The office of the supreme religious authority further stated that the scope of retaliatory military operations has expanded, encompassing several other countries. Consequently, many regions and facilities in other nations have sustained damage in unfamiliar scenarios not witnessed in the region for an extended period.
The office of Grand Ayatollah al-Sistani declared that a unilateral decision, made without the involvement of the United Nations Security Council, to wage a comprehensive war against another member state with the aim of imposing specific conditions or overthrowing its political system is dangerous. This action not only contradicts international charters but also warns of extremely dire consequences at regional and international levels, anticipated to lead to widespread chaos and prolonged extensive unrest, bringing hardship to the peoples of the region as well as other areas.
