Hezbollah Condemns Lebanese Foreign Ministry Decision to Expel Iranian Ambassador

Hezbollah has vehemently denounced a decision by Lebanon’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs to declare Iran’s ambassador persona non grata and demand his departure, labeling the move a strategic error driven by external pressure.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Hezbollah has issued a strong condemnation of the Lebanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ decision to request Iran’s ambassador to leave the country. The organization declared that it “resolutely condemns and rejects” the decision, which it stated lacks any legal basis and would lead to the revocation of the credentials of Mohammad Reza Sheibani, Iran’s designated ambassador to Lebanon, declaring him persona non grata and ordering his expulsion.

In its statement, Hezbollah argued that this hasty and regrettable action does not serve Lebanon’s national interests, sovereignty, or national unity, but rather contravenes them. It clearly indicates submission to foreign pressures and dictates, and constitutes a blatant overreach of presidential authority. Hezbollah dismissed the pretexts used for this arbitrary decision, which accused the ambassador of interfering in Lebanon’s internal affairs, as further evidence of its political and vindictive nature, lacking wisdom and national responsibility.

The group characterized the move as suspicious and occurring at a dangerous time, necessitating solidarity among all Lebanese citizens from diverse political, party, cultural, and social backgrounds. It also called for a unified official stance to bolster deterrents against the Israeli enemy and compel its withdrawal from occupied territories. Hezbollah asserted that the Foreign Minister, through words and actions, is serving the interests of the Israeli enemy and, consciously or unconsciously, with a narrow, vindictive partisan mindset, is working to weaken the Lebanese government and strip it of the cohesion needed at this sensitive and critical juncture. By granting further concessions to the enemy, this minister is paving the way for Lebanon’s complete subservience to the United States and Israel.

The statement further highlighted that this decision is made more dangerous and egregious by emanating from the same minister who has remained silent in the face of overt American interference in Lebanon and provocative statements by American officials and envoys that have insulted and incited against Lebanon and one of its core components. In contrast, the minister has demonstrated power against a friendly country that has never faltered in supporting and assisting Lebanon, standing by its people in the toughest times and helping to strengthen its capabilities to protect its land and people, without ever interfering in its internal affairs or compromising its sovereignty, while maintaining good and strong relations with Lebanon.

Hezbollah considers this resolution a grave national and strategic sin that will not contribute to national unity but will instead open doors to internal division, deepen the national rift, and lead the country down a very dangerous path of dependency, weakness, and vulnerability. The party urged the President and the Prime Minister to ask the Foreign Minister – who has lost his national standing by prioritizing partisan interests over Lebanon’s interests, security, and stability – to immediately retract this resolution with its dangerous implications. It is also necessary for the minister and his party to act with wisdom and prudence, understand the dangers surrounding Lebanon, and recognize that safeguarding Lebanese sovereignty is achieved not by surrendering to foreign dictates, nor by antagonizing a core component of the nation or hostile to countries that have supported Lebanon and stood by it, but through national solidarity and confronting the country’s only true enemy, the Zionist entity.

In related developments, two MPs affiliated with the Loyalty to the Resistance bloc in the Lebanese Parliament also reacted. Hassan Ezzedine, a Member of Parliament from the Loyalty to the Resistance bloc, told Al Jazeera that the decision to ask the Iranian ambassador to leave the country is a strategic mistake by the Lebanese government. Furthermore, Hassan Fadlallah, a Member of Parliament from the Resistance bloc, stated in an interview with Al-Jadeed channel regarding the decision against the Iranian ambassador that it harms Lebanon’s interests and its relations with friendly countries, will fail, and those who made it must retract it.

This stance by Hezbollah comes in response to a decision made by Beirut on Tuesday against Iran. Lebanon’s Foreign Minister Youssef Sahione wrote on social media platform X that he had instructed the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants to summon the Iranian chargé d’affaires in Lebanon and inform him of the decision to revoke the credentials of Mohammad Reza Sheibani, the appointed ambassador of Iran. The Lebanese Foreign Minister, who has taken unconstructive positions against Iran since the government’s formation, requested that the country’s ambassador leave Lebanon by March 29, 2026.
