Haaretz: Return to JCPOA Era a Distant Wish for US and Israel

The Israeli newspaper Haaretz suggests that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu owes an apology to the Obama administration for his role in encouraging the United States’ withdrawal from the 2015 Iran nuclear deal, a move that ultimately propelled Tehran’s nuclear program forward.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, the Israeli newspaper Haaretz has reported that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is indebted to the administration of former U.S. President Barack Obama, the architect of the 2015 nuclear agreement with Iran, for an apology.

The Israeli publication stated that Israel and the United States can now only aspire to return to the conditions of 2018, prior to Netanyahu’s success in persuading then-U.S. President Donald Trump to withdraw from the nuclear deal with Iran. This action, the report argues, only led Iran to advance its nuclear program at a faster pace and ultimately resulted in two futile conflicts.

Haaretz added that the time has come for Netanyahu and Israel to acknowledge the facts regarding the former U.S. president and offer amends.

Many experts and political figures believe that the U.S. withdrawal from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) and the subsequent imposition of three wars on Iran have augmented the Islamic Republic’s authority. At that time, the Islamic Republic had voluntarily limited its nuclear enrichment and relinquished its sovereign rights over the Strait of Hormuz. However, due to Washington’s imprudent policies, these voluntary measures have now been abandoned.
