US Defense Secretary Claims Sanctions Against Iran Remain, Amidst Conflicting Statements

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, U.S. Secretary of War Pete Hegseth has reiterated that sanctions against Iran remain in place, while also expressing President Trump’s determination to prevent Tehran from acquiring nuclear weapons.
Hegseth, speaking to media outlets, indicated that President Trump will not sign any agreement unless it serves the interests of the United States, and that negotiations with Iran have been constructive. He asserted that U.S. objectives concerning Iran have not changed and that Trump is focused on a significant deal with the nation, possessing the necessary patience to ensure Iran does not obtain nuclear weapons.
The defense secretary further claimed that the Strait of Hormuz would be free and open for global use. These statements come following disruptions to maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz, attributed to actions by the United States and what the source describes as the “Zionist regime,” which reportedly impacted the global supply chain for fuel, energy, and other commodities like petrochemicals and fertilizers.
Iran has previously stated its readiness to guarantee shipping security in the Strait of Hormuz, provided a stable ceasefire and the end of hostilities are achieved, along with adherence to necessary security protocols.
