Iraqi Lawmaker Declares Turkish Military Presence Violates Sovereignty

A prominent Iraqi parliament member has asserted that Turkey’s ongoing military presence within Iraq constitutes a clear violation of the nation’s sovereignty, dismissing Ankara’s justifications for operations against PKK elements on Iraqi soil. This continued presence is seen as detrimental to Iraq’s security and stability.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Thaer Al-Kaabi, a member of the Iraqi Parliament, has emphasized that the continued military presence of Turkey in Iraq is an overt breach of Iraqi sovereignty. He stated that the justifications put forth by Turkey regarding attacks on PKK elements within Iraqi territory are unacceptable.

Al-Kaabi added that Iraq has the right to confront illegitimate foreign military presence, a situation that necessitates a firm stance and active political measures from the government. He further elaborated that the persistence of this situation negatively impacts Iraq’s security conditions and stability, noting that previous governments have also failed to resolve the issue.

The Iraqi lawmaker underscored that safeguarding borders and confronting security challenges are inherent responsibilities of a sovereign state.
