Two U.S. Military Personnel Detained in Japan on Drunken Driving Charges

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, local Japanese media reported that two U.S. military personnel stationed in the country’s southernmost prefecture, Okinawa, were arrested by local police on Saturday on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol. Kyodo News Agency also reported that police stopped and apprehended the two American soldiers during their morning patrol. Breathalyzer tests indicated that both servicemen had alcohol levels exceeding legal limits, leading to their immediate arrest. Crimes involving U.S. military personnel stationed in Japan, including serious offenses such as murder, rape, and theft, have long been a significant and persistent concern. Official statistics reveal that in 2025 alone, the Okinawa police investigated over 100 criminal cases involving U.S. military members and associated personnel.
