Sullivan: New Versailles Treaty Requires U.S. Compensation to Iran

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, former U.S. National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan stated on his podcast, “The Long Game,” that a memorandum of understanding between Iran and the United States would see the U.S. compensating Iran. Sullivan contrasted this with former President Trump’s characterization of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) as the “worst deal in history,” noting that Trump has now entered into an agreement that provides Iran with tens of billions of dollars to reopen a strait that was closed before the start of the recent conflict.
Sullivan, who served as National Security Advisor under the Biden administration, elaborated on the accord. He said that the agreement explicitly permits Iran to design a scheme for collecting tolls from ships transiting the strait, a provision that did not exist prior to the current conflict.
The former national security advisor further added that this agreement promises $300 billion in investment in Iran for the country’s reconstruction. He critically observed that the U.S. is not receiving anything substantial in return for Iran’s nuclear program.
Sullivan concluded by stating that they are dealing with an individual (referring to Trump) who literally sat at Versailles, France, and signed the agreement. He referred to this as a “new Versailles treaty,” with the key difference being that the United States is the party paying reparations.
