IMO Clarifies Status of Ship Attacked in Persian Gulf

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, the International Maritime Organization (IMO) has announced that the vessel attacked in the Gulf of Oman today was not navigating under the evacuation framework and procedures defined by the organization. The IMO also reported the temporary suspension of its plan for the evacuation and transit of ships through the Strait of Hormuz, emphasizing that this decision will remain in effect until more information and explanations are received regarding the incident’s scope and the region’s security conditions. Officials from the IMO are currently examining the incident’s details, with the investigation’s findings to be announced subsequently. The Wall Street Journal, citing an American official, had previously claimed that Iran attacked a Singapore-flagged cargo ship in the Strait of Hormuz on Thursday. This alleged attack, which damaged the ship’s bridge but resulted in no casualties, occurred just hours after Iran warned ships against using routes not approved by the country. The incident reportedly tested the recent agreement between the United States and Iran aimed at reopening this crucial shipping corridor.
