Italian Demonstrators Urge Rome to Sever Ties with Tel Aviv

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Italian demonstrators held a large protest in the nation’s capital on Thursday, demanding that the city municipality completely cease its current collaborations with the Israeli regime. This action comes amid escalating international pressure on Israel over its actions in Gaza and the wider region.
A significant number of Palestine supporters, braving intense heat, assembled in the “Campidoglio” square, directly in front of Rome’s City Hall. Waving Palestinian flags, they vocally called for the annulment of existing agreements between the Rome municipality and the Israeli regime. Protesters chanted slogans such as “Palestine will be free from the river to the sea” and “Rome knows who it stands with,” expressing solidarity with the Palestinian cause.
The Italian demonstrators also condemned recent Israeli attacks on Lebanon, highlighting the regional impact of the conflict. Maya Issa, head of the Palestinian Students’ Movement in Italy, stated on the sidelines of the event that the primary objective of the demonstration was to pressure local authorities to end all active agreements with Israel. She noted that over the past several months, more than 16,000 residents of Rome have signed a petition calling for an end to cooperation with the Israeli regime.
Issa emphasized that the will of Rome’s citizens to sever relations and isolate Israel is clearly evident. She further highlighted that the petition has garnered support from over seven other municipalities in the vicinity of Rome. Citing United Nations reports detailing alleged “genocide” in Gaza, she urged Rome’s local authorities to undertake tangible and decisive actions against Israel’s conduct.
