Netanyahu: Turkey Should Not Acquire F-35 Fighter Jets
According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has declared that Turkey should not be allowed to acquire F-35 fighter jets. Speaking to Al-Hadath, Netanyahu also mentioned that the timing of his visit to the United States has not yet been finalized.
He further asserted that strengthening peace in the region would be a consequence of victory over Iran. The Israeli Prime Minister’s statement regarding Turkey and the F-35 program highlights a central concern within his cabinet, stemming from media reports about the potential sale of fifth-generation F-35 aircraft to Turkey by the United States.
Israel’s security doctrine has consistently been predicated on maintaining absolute military qualitative superiority in the region. The introduction of F-35s into Turkey’s air force could challenge this aerial advantage, particularly in relation to a regional player. This apprehension is amplified by clashing interests between the two nations in Syria following the downfall of Bashar al-Assad’s regime. Israel views Turkey’s increasing influence over Damascus as a threat, while Ankara has condemned Israeli attacks on Syrian infrastructure.
