NATO Chief: U.S. Operations Against Iran Likely Dependent on European Infrastructure

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg stated that the United States likely would not have been able to conduct operations against Iran without leveraging Europe as a significant platform for power projection. He highlighted Romania’s role in providing airfields for U.S. aircraft.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg stated on Tuesday that the United States likely would not have been able to execute operations against Iran without utilizing Europe as a major platform for demonstrating and applying power. His remarks were made on the sidelines of a NATO summit in the Turkish capital.

Stoltenberg added that Romania, for example, closed its largest commercial airport to facilitate the takeoff and landing of American aircraft for operations impacting Iran. Despite consistent insistence from President Donald Trump regarding the non-cooperation of allies, he noted that over 5,000 aircraft departed from European air bases during the current winter.

The NATO chief emphasized that European countries are undertaking significantly more actions to bolster their military capabilities and assume a more equitable share in the continent’s defense.
