Israeli Media Labels Erdogan a Growing Security Challenge Amid Turkey’s Military Modernization

Israeli media outlets are increasingly viewing Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s policies as a significant and escalating challenge to Israel’s internal security, particularly with Turkey’s ambitious plans to modernize its air force with advanced American fighter jets.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Israeli media sources, alongside warnings about Turkey‘s expanding influence in the Middle East, have identified the policies of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan as a growing challenge to the internal security of the Israeli regime.

Avi Ashkenazi, an Israeli writer for the Hebrew-language Maariv newspaper, stated that Turkey is implementing a comprehensive plan to modernize its air force. This includes the procurement of advanced American fighter jets, the refurbishment of its existing F-16 fleet, and the development of its own TF fighter jet.

He added that the Turkish Air Force currently operates approximately 240 F-16 aircraft and dozens of F-4 Phantom fighters. Ankara is reportedly seeking to acquire 40 upgraded F-16 Block 8 aircraft, modernize around 150 other planes, and secure American engines for its TF fighter jet project.

Ashkenazi further noted that Turkey’s armament plan also involves efforts to obtain 40 F-35 fighter jets, emphasizing that Tel Aviv and Greece are working to prevent the finalization of this deal.

He pointed out that the completion of this deal requires approval from the U.S. Department of Defense (the Pentagon), followed by submission to the U.S. Congress, leaving its future uncertain.

Maariv reported that the Israeli military is growing increasingly concerned about the potential for Turkey to acquire advanced American fighter jets, as this could lead to a relative decrease in the Israeli regime’s air superiority in the region.

The Israeli newspaper added that once Turkey possesses the F-35, Israeli Air Force pilots may not be able to fly alone in stealth aircraft over the Middle East.

Israel Hayom: Erdogan Has Become a Threat to Tel Aviv’s Security

Ariel Kahane, an Israeli writer for the Hebrew-language Israel Hayom newspaper, wrote that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s animosity towards Israel is no longer confined to political stances or media statements but has evolved into a direct challenge to the Israeli regime’s internal security in recent weeks.

He stated that the Turkish Navy had obstructed a naval maneuver by Tel Aviv. Kahane asserted that Turkey continues to rapidly develop its defense industries, aiming to acquire F-35 fighter jets and advanced American jet engines, and is engaging in joint naval and air exercises with the Egyptian army.

Kahane, asserting that “Erdogan grew up hating Israel,” suggested that Turkey’s acquisition of American weaponry, alongside Qatar’s role in transporting Trump to a summit via the presidential plane, indicates a close relationship between Washington and a bloc led by Muslim Brotherhood-affiliated countries.

The writer concluded by noting that the Israeli regime’s ambassador in Washington and his team are attempting to persuade the U.S. government and members of Congress to prevent this agreement.
