Italian PM Meloni Expresses Hope for Iran-US Talks Amid Regional Tensions

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has voiced deep concern over recent escalations involving Iran and the United States, while expressing hope for the resumption of negotiations and warning against military escalation.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni stated that she has received worrying news in recent hours regarding Iran. Speaking at a press conference following the 36th NATO Summit in Turkey, Meloni responded to a question about recent US provocations in the region, including alleged incursions into Iranian territory and breaches of the Tehran-Washington understanding.

“I am deeply concerned about the developments in Iran and cannot rule out the possibility of this crisis spreading to other parts of this sensitive region,” Meloni stated. She added that efforts are underway to prevent such a scenario and that she has not yet lost hope for the resumption of negotiations concerning Iran. The Italian Prime Minister emphasized that military options have not yielded tangible and lasting results and that the path of negotiation should be pursued, with Italy continuing its efforts in this regard.

Meloni also acknowledged that NATO is aware of the challenges it faces and is determined to strengthen its capabilities.

This comes after the US Central Command (CENTCOM), designated as the command of American terrorist forces in the region, claimed in a statement that its forces completed a new round of offensive operations against Iran on July 7. CENTCOM asserted that in response to Iran’s latest attacks on commercial vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz, they struck over 80 targets using precision-guided munitions.
