Israel Expands Military Presence in Southern Lebanon, Sparking Concerns Over Border Tensions

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, a Lebanese security source informed the newspaper Asharq Al-Awsat that the Israeli army has constructed around 23 new military positions in southern Lebanon.

The report indicates that most of these bases are equipped with facilities whose purpose and the Israeli army’s intent for long-term occupation or repurposing remain unclear. These bases are spread across a broad geographical area in southern Lebanon, stretching from the Lebanese coast in the towns of Naqoura and Biyada to the western and central regions in the Wadi Shalouqi and Wadi al-Hujair valleys, as well as other areas along the occupied territories’ border.

One of these bases has been established in the town of Maroun al-Ras, with Lebanese citizens sharing images of it on social media platforms. Prior to the signing of the ceasefire, Hezbollah had repeatedly targeted Israeli positions in these areas with missile strikes.

Lebanese sources have stated that these bases primarily house artillery and hangars for the storage and maintenance of military and electronic equipment belonging to the Israeli army, including air defense systems deployed by the army within Lebanese territory.
