US Has Not Discussed Strait of Hormuz Tolls with Regional Allies, Axios Reports

The United States has not yet officially presented its proposal for collecting tolls on vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz to its regional allies, according to a senior source familiar with the matter. This comes after President Trump suggested charging a 20% fee on all cargo to cover security costs.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, following President Trump’s assertion that he intends to levy a 20% charge on the value of all cargo passing through the Strait of Hormuz, ostensibly for security, the Axios website reported that Washington has not raised the issue of potentially collecting these tolls with its regional allies. This information was conveyed by a senior source with deep knowledge of the Persian Gulf region.

President Trump had previously declared via a post on Truth Social, “The Strait of Hormuz will remain open, with or without Iran! America will be known as the guardian of the Strait of Hormuz. But in fairness, all of its costs must be compensated for to carry out this mission and ensure the security of this highly tense part of the world. For this purpose, 20% of the value of all cargo will be collected as a fee for this mission.”
