Vatican Official Rejects US Ambassador’s Claims on Pope’s Statements

A senior Vatican official has countered claims by the U.S. Ambassador, asserting that Pope Francis speaks from a spiritual and biblical foundation when addressing global issues like war and migration. The response comes amidst efforts to downplay the Pope’s criticism of U.S. foreign policy.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Andrea Tornielli, a prominent Vatican official, issued a statement emphasizing that when the Pope speaks decisively on issues such as war, migrants, and other matters, he is officially speaking based on the Gospel. This response from the Vatican official was made in reaction to the remarks of the U.S. Ambassador, who attempted to diminish the significance of Pope Francis’s criticism of Washington’s warmongering against Iran.

The Ambassador had claimed that the Pope’s criticisms were presented as those of the political leader of a small country like the Vatican, rather than from the spiritual leader of Catholics worldwide.

Tornielli stressed that this claim is misleading. He affirmed that the Pope remains primarily a spiritual leader, even when addressing topics such as war, peace, migration, and artificial intelligence.

Previously, the Pope’s anti-war stances had also provoked anger from Donald Trump, leading him to insult the Pope’s position. This incident prompted many countries around the world to take a stance on the matter.
