Shipping Remains Severely Limited in Strait of Hormuz Amid US-Iran Tensions

Shipping traffic through the Strait of Hormuz continues to be significantly restricted, according to Kepler data, following renewed escalations between the United States and Iran.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, data released by Kepler indicates that maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz remains highly constrained as the United States and Iran resume their confrontation. Al Jazeera reported on the findings originally published by Mehr News Agency.

Ship tracking data revealed that only 13 commercial vessels transited the Strait of Hormuz on Wednesday, with just one utilizing the southern route near the Omani coast. This limited activity underscores the ongoing disruption to critical shipping lanes.

Further insights from Kepler’s ship tracking analytics show that on Tuesday, nine out of eleven vessels navigated the designated shipping corridor established by Iran within the Strait of Hormuz. This pattern highlights the adherence to specific routes amidst the heightened geopolitical climate.

Recent U.S. actions against Iran in the Persian Gulf have contributed to the disruption of vessel movements through the Strait of Hormuz. These actions have created an environment of uncertainty for international shipping.

The Islamic Republic of Iran has repeatedly asserted its management of the Strait, emphasizing that vessels must strictly adhere to secure routes designated by Tehran. Iran has also warned that vessels deviating from these approved pathways, potentially facilitating U.S. military intervention in the region, will bear responsibility for the consequences.
