US Senator Admits Failure in Weakening Iran’s Missile and Drone Capabilities
According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, US Senator Mark Warner of Virginia has stated that the United States has been unsuccessful in its efforts to diminish Iran’s missile and drone capabilities. Speaking on CBS News, Warner offered condolences to the families of military personnel involved in what he described as an “unlawful invasion of Iranian territory,” noting substantial casualties among American forces.
Warner, a member of the “Gang of Eight,” asserted that there was no immediate threat from Iran to justify the conflict. He criticized the initiation of hostilities without a clear plan, suggesting that the Trump administration’s ultimate goal was regime change. The senator also indicated no progress had been made on the issue of enriched uranium, estimating that a military operation to secure it would require approximately 15,000 troops, a deployment no one is willing to undertake.
He further elaborated on the difficulties and costs associated with confronting Iran, particularly concerning the utilization of expensive missiles to intercept much cheaper Iranian drones. “We said we were going to try to weaken their ability to use missiles and drones, and clearly, we have not succeeded in that,” Warner stated. He expressed frustration over the use of $2.5 million missiles to take down $50,000 Iranian drones.
The senator also touched upon the Strait of Hormuz issue, noting the rise in gasoline prices to $4 per gallon, a significant increase from the price before the conflict began. He pointed out the lack of a concrete plan to ensure the continued openness of the strait.
