Israel Exploits Regional Crisis for Escalated Aggression Against Gaza
According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Al Jazeera reported that as global attention has been diverted to the conflict between the United States and Iran and the implications of the Strait of Hormuz closure, Gaza appears to have been sidelined from international headlines. However, the reality on the ground within the Gaza Strip tells a different story, with ongoing airstrikes and assassinations, coupled with expanding Israeli-occupied areas, restrictions on food and medicine aid, and attacks targeting Palestinian police and security forces.
These violations persist despite an agreement signed by Tel Aviv with guarantor mediators, under which the Israeli regime committed to halting attacks, withdrawing from agreed-upon areas, and facilitating the entry of humanitarian aid into Gaza. Nevertheless, the frequency of Israeli airstrikes and assassinations has accelerated in recent days, with daily aerial bombardments and artillery attacks claiming numerous Palestinian lives.
One of the most brutal attacks occurred when a building in the northwest of Gaza City was targeted, resulting in the martyrdom of an entire family of five – father, mother, and three children. In the Al-Zaytoun neighborhood, three civilians were killed in another airstrike, and the body of a woman was recovered from a tent belonging to displaced persons that had been hit by artillery fire east of the neighborhood.
Israel’s aggressions are not confined to continued attacks on the Gaza Strip; the occupation of the territory is actively expanding. This occurs despite an agreement signed in October 2025, which stipulated that the Israeli regime would initially occupy only 53% of Gaza’s territory as a prelude to gradual withdrawal. However, this percentage has since increased to 58%, and according to local officials, it has surpassed 60%. The cabinet of Benjamin Netanyahu has pledged to increase this to 70%.
The demarcation lines known as the Israeli-occupied zones within the Gaza Strip are in constant flux. Any Palestinian presence in these areas is perceived as a threat to the Israeli regime. The entry of humanitarian aid has also drastically decreased. Gaza requires 600 trucks of aid daily, yet only 190 to 250 trucks, representing 30 to 35 percent of the need, are entering the territory.
Seventy-seven percent of Gaza’s population suffers from a severe food crisis, with tens of thousands of children and pregnant women requiring immediate nutritional assistance. The Israeli regime’s targeting of police forces and disruption of order in Gaza continues. These attacks are not isolated incidents but a deliberate pattern aimed at undermining internal security and exacerbating the difficult living conditions for Palestinians.
Meanwhile, activists, journalists, and aid workers are striving to bring Gaza back into the spotlight through an online campaign launched on July 16 in Arabic and English with the hashtag #TheyLiedYou.
