South African Rights Groups Oppose Israeli Firm’s Participation in Offshore Oil Project

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, human rights and environmental bodies in South Africa have called on the government to withhold a necessary permit for Navitas Petroleum, a company associated with the Israeli regime, to operate at an offshore oil site in the Orange River coastal area. This appeal comes in light of Pretoria’s supportive position on the Palestinian cause.
The aforementioned organizations dispatched a letter to the Minister of Mineral and Petroleum Resources, requesting South African authorities to prevent the company’s involvement in this oil project. They also highlighted the potential environmental consequences of such endeavors.
Navitas Petroleum signed an agreement on Wednesday to acquire a 37.5% operating share in the Block 1 CBK offshore license within the Orange River basin.
