US Agriculture Sector Reels from Economic Fallout of Actions Against Iran, Axios Reports

American farmers are facing significant economic strain, with soaring fuel and fertilizer costs directly linked to the repercussions of U.S. actions against Iran, according to an Axios report cited by Mehr News Agency.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Axios has acknowledged that the consequences of U.S. aggression against Iran have impacted the agricultural sector and other vital segments of the American economy.

American farmers have reportedly suffered two major blows stemming from actions taken against Iran. In addition to a sharp increase in fuel prices as the soybean harvest season approaches, fertilizer costs had already risen due to regional tensions.

The report, quoting the head of a national farmers’ association in Ohio, stated that rising fuel prices have led to a $25,000 increase in costs this year compared to January prices. John Newton, Vice President of Economics for the American Farm Bureau Federation, commented that these farmers are under intense pressure. Drew Kenitzer, an agricultural economist at the University of Missouri, noted that most farmers lack the necessary storage capacity and space to hedge against price fluctuations through futures contracts, exacerbated by the surge in fuel prices.
