Gaza Peace Council Head Warns of Ceasefire Collapse Amid Humanitarian Crisis
According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Nikolay Mladenov, the Special Representative for the Middle East Peace Process, expressed grave concerns on Sunday evening regarding the critical situation of two million Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, who are grappling with war, hunger, and severe restrictions. He implored the international community to take tangible steps to resolve this humanitarian crisis.
Mladenov cautioned that a failure to adhere to the current roadmap poses a serious threat to the sustainability of the ceasefire and could lead to its collapse. He stressed that this warning is directed at both the Palestinian and Israeli sides, noting that a return to conflict would have devastating repercussions. “There is no better alternative to the existing plan,” he added.
The head of the Gaza Peace Council elaborated on the operational details for the deployment of forces, stating, “We have determined the necessary mechanism for the deployment of international forces to maintain stability in the Gaza Strip and specific locations in the region.” He also confirmed an agreement with Morocco for participation in this international force, while Turkey will not be part of this formation. He anticipated that the advance units of this force would enter the Gaza Strip soon.
In terms of reconstruction, Mladenov announced the reception of financial pledges totaling $7 billion for the rebuilding of Gaza’s infrastructure. He lauded the pivotal roles of Qatar, Egypt, and Turkey in advancing agreements with Hamas. Mladenov concluded by expressing hope for the Palestinian National Committee to assume executive responsibilities in the Gaza Strip and revealed that constructive negotiations are underway with Israel to expedite the flow of humanitarian aid into the region.
