Turkey and Pakistan Defense Ministers Meet in Istanbul, Advance Strategic Committee

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Turkish Minister of National Defense Yaşar Güler met with his Pakistani counterpart Khawaja Muhammad Asif in Istanbul on Monday. The meeting took place in the context of the first session of the Strategic Political and Defense Committee, formed as part of the Mecca Joint Defense Agreement signed on August 7th between Turkey, Pakistan, and Saudi Arabia.

The agreement, signed on August 7th by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in Mecca, aims to bolster defense cooperation and reinforce commitments to maintaining regional and global peace, stability, and prosperity. It is founded on the principle of shared responsibility and a common understanding of security.

The primary objective of this accord is to enhance collective deterrence against any acts of aggression. Under its provisions, an armed attack on any one of the three signatory nations will be considered an attack on all three.

General Selçuk Bayraktaroğlu, Chief of the General Staff of the Turkish Armed Forces, also participated in the meeting.
