The Egyptian army announced on Monday that joint air exercises with China, codenamed “Eagles of Civilization-2026,” are ongoing at various airbases within Egypt. These maneuvers involve a number of multirole fighter jets of different types belonging to both countries and precede an anticipated visit by Chinese President Xi Jinping to Cairo.
The Egyptian military stated in a release that the joint air exercise, which commenced approximately one week ago, is being held across several Egyptian airbases. The statement highlighted that several joint flights have been conducted with the objective of training in managing aerial combat operations, targeting enemy objectives, and safeguarding vital assets utilizing the latest aerial tactics.
Furthermore, the drills include aerial refueling training, the exchange of expertise, and the enhancement of pilots’ skills and capabilities for executing joint operations, according to the statement. The Egyptian army emphasized that the primary goal of these exercises is to maximize the participants’ utilization of modern air operation planning and execution, alongside fostering the exchange of experiences to bolster the capabilities and readiness of the air forces of both nations.
Reports from Egyptian media, citing a Chinese source, indicate that Xi Jinping is scheduled to commence his visit to Egypt on Tuesday. This visit marks his first trip to the country in the past decade.
