Iraqi Lawmaker Vows to Protect Popular Mobilization Forces

An Iraqi Member of Parliament has asserted that the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) are essential for the nation’s sovereignty and will not be allowed to be weakened, emphasizing their crucial role in combating terrorism.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Sakr Hassan, a member of the Security and Defense Committee of the Iraqi Parliament, has stressed that the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) serve as a guarantor of the country’s sovereignty and will not be permitted to have their standing undermined. He added that the sacrifices made by the PMF in confronting terrorists are an integral part of Iraq’s history. Hassan affirmed that the PMF is an official and legal institution that must be protected and its role in supporting the nation should be endorsed.

Sakr Hassan stated that any schemes to weaken or diminish the role of the PMF within Iraq’s security structure should not be allowed to succeed. He equated protecting these forces with safeguarding Iraq’s sovereignty and security, urging that any discussions concerning this institution be conducted free from external pressures.

It is worth noting that given the prominent role of the PMF in confronting terrorist elements in Iraq and the remnants of ISIS, the United States and affiliated factions have been actively seeking the dissolution of this official institution.
