Trump Claims Ownership of the Moon, Continues Naming Controversy
According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, U.S. President Donald Trump posted an image of the moon on the social media platform Truth Social, accompanied by the statement, “The Moon belongs to us!”
In a continuation of his controversial statements and actions regarding the renaming of geographical areas, Trump has now turned his attention to Earth’s natural satellite. By sharing an image of the moon with the phrase “The Moon belongs to us!” and the American flag superimposed on it, he has once again ignited controversy.
On January 20, 2025, Trump signed an executive order renaming the “Gulf of Mexico” to the “Gulf of America” and restoring the name “Mount McKinley” to Denali, the highest peak in North America, located in Alaska.
This trend has persisted into 2026. In August, Trump issued an order to change the name of Lake Ontario to “Lake America” for official U.S. federal government applications. Trump also recently proposed the idea of renaming New Mexico to “New America.” These actions have drawn reactions and opposition from Canadian officials and some domestic U.S. figures, highlighting Trump’s controversial approach to redefining geographical names and symbols.
